Rimmel VoxBox!

Hey there!

I wanted to share with you about my latest VoxBox that I got free through Influenster... I was so excited when this came through the post (It was my first one!), I had been really looking forward to trying their foundation in particular.

A lot of foundations I have tried recently have been fairly heavy and have not made my skin feel very fresh or natural so when I first used Rimmel's Lasting Finish Foundation, I was sooooo happy!
It has an interesting applicator like a lipgloss wand (It probably has a proper name, sorry) which actually makes it so much easier to apply.
The foundation itself really is very lasting! It doesn't clog my skin at all and it gives a gorgeous finish. I am so happy with it.

I also got their concealer which I do really like, but wasn't quite so excited about. I like the actual product when applied very much, however I feel like the sponge applicator didn't dispense the concealer very well sometimes and so made it hard to use.

Two products were included within the package as an extra... One was a beautiful Moisture Renew Lipstick in the shade, Vintage Pink which I actually already own (I love it so much!) it's such a pretty and unique colour, it has a purple tone but not too much, helping it to be a great everyday/workwear shade. I would definitely recommend it!
The second was their Sculpting Palette which includes a highlighter, bronzer and blush, it's a nice set actually and is good to have everything in one. They are all really nice colours too so I have been using them all daily! (I'm a bit of a newbie to highlighters, so I approve of this!)

So that's my review of my Rimmel products within my VoxBox! I have been really happy with each of these and incorporate them into my daily makeup looks. The only thing I am not so keen on is the fact Rimmel test on animals :( I have just started to become more and more aware of this and so from now on will make sure I look out for the non cruelty to animals symbol <3

Let me know what you think and if you've tried any of these products! Also if you have any questions about Influenster then feel free to ask away :)

Tips for a more healthy week!

Hey!

I have been thinking about being healthier a lot recently but when I say thinking, I really do just mean thinking! So I thought I would do a post for anyone out there like me, who has all the right intentions but just needs a bit of a steer in the right direction.

I find it so hard to work up the motivation to be healthy and I think it's because I want fast results, but that's not going to happen in reality. Our health is something we constantly need to be working at and I think that's what I find the hardest!

I've come up with a few things that you and I can both give a go!!

1. Drink more water...

Sounds sooooooo boring - Sorry. However it really is a good tip! Even if you just make sure you have 1 or 2 more glasses more than you currently have then thats a good start. Water is great for so many things such as your skin, your brain, your kidneys...! Why not switch one of your multiple cups of tea (and I know how hard that is) for a glass of water?!

2. Tidy some drawers or a room

http://www.instagram.com/jessicacantell

This point I was thinking more of the healthy mind kind of thing. People always say that thing that goes something like, "tidy home, tidy mind" so it must be true. I've actually been sorting out my bedroom and in particular my drawers. They were so messy inside before and I didn't really know the half of what was in there! Now that I've cleared it all out I feel like I can think straight and I don't have to do an inward groan every time I open the drawer...

3. Get an early night

Now I am definitely not someone who does this much... Well ever, to be really honest. I always have it in my head that I can just browse a few more things on Instagram or something and before I know it, it's 47 minutes later and midnight! I think the key is to set yourself a time of when you would like to be in bed, lights out and really stick to it. I would like to do that by 10 and I will definitely try! I promise!

4. Find one fruit or vegetable that you really enjoy!

Again sorry that this is such a typical, dull point. It is very important though, especially as we are coming up to the Autumn where it is going to get colder and people will have colds!
I absolutely love avacados, I think they are manna sent down from heaven. Lucikily for me, they are extremely healthy! Yay me! So maybe you like them too? If not (and I really find it hard to believe that anyone would dislike them), I'm almost certain there will be some other kind of fruit or vegetable that you actually really like. Why not browse the supermarket isle and try something you've not had before? :)

5. Spare some time just to do nothing

I think it is very important to set some time aside for yourself. Even if just an evening where you don't have any plans except maybe a date with Netflix and a pizza (or an avacado). It is so good to be able to just completely switch off, take off all your makeup and relax! We live such hectic lives where we are just have one thing after another to do, so just don't do anything for a change!
----------
If you're the opposite and you are doing nothing more than you are doing something then I suggest the pointer for you could be to spare time for doing something with other people. Why not meet up with a friend and spend a couple of hours of quality time together? You definitely won't regret it, building relationships with people is always a good idea. They'd probably really appreciate that you took the time to think of them!

That's it! That's enough healthy-ness for one post. I will definitely be trying to give these things a go, let me know if you've got any other good tips we can all try out too.

Till next time,
Jessica x

Where have I been!?

Hi guys!

I hope you're all okay! The sunshine is actually out today for a change, I could to so far as to say it feels like summer! (Almost)

Well I thought I would do a post today to say I am so very sorry for deserting you all and not posting for what feels like a decade... I have been so busy with one thing or another so my mind unfortunately hasn't been on my blog.

I have been doing a lot on Instagram though and I'm really enjoying it! If you have it too do you fancy following each other? I really like to support the other makeup bloggers so always like to help and follow back where I can!

So if you're interested... http://www.instagram.com/jessicacantell

My latest post has been featuring a new book I've been reading called, 'The Last Letter From Your Lover' by Jojo Moyles - I love her books, she's such a good author. Have any of you got any good book suggestions?

Lovely to be writing with you again, hope to post again soon and do head over to Instagram too if you'd like to be friends there 😄

All the best,
Jessica x

Something New - Makeup Buys...

Hello!

Yesterday I went to Superdrug and noticed they had the 3 for 2 offer (where you spend hours in the shop looking for the third free item...) I am guilty and have to say I found this too hard to resist!
So after seeing Revolution's eyeshadow palettes at such an amazing price I went on the hunt for two other products to go with the deal.

The Revolution pallete I chose was Iconic 3 for only £4! :O I chose this because of the pink and peachy shades and the range of tones within the set. This is something I think is very important with palettes as you often get some that don't have very dark shades, they can sometimes be very medium tones which can make it difficult to create dramatic looks!
After using this today, I can say I am very happy with it. The colours show up really well and the pigmentation is fabulous! The range of different shades is great, so really helps with building up tones for a smokey eye look.

I may have to have a look at some of their other palettes (and start all over with the 3 for 2 offer... Yay!)

The second product I bought was another from Revolution. I was in need of a new liquid eyeliner, so I thought I would give their one a go. At only £3.50, I couldn't really go wrong ;) It is called Double Flick and Thin and has two ends. One end is obviously thin and the other thick! I used the thin side this morning and felt it was great for precision and creates a really great flick! I was a little apprehensive as anyone is with using a new eyeliner, but have to say I was pleasantly surprised and it is definitely worth the money.

I was initially looking for something for under £3/4 so that I wouldn't have to spend more than I had intended... Not that I had intended to buy 3 items in the first place! However as you do, I came across Lottie London. I found their nail polish range and was so excited to see To and FROW! What a gorgeous colour it is... It has pink/red glitter with a blue shimmer and looks absolutely gorgeous on! Now, I did spend more than £3/4, as this polish was £5.99 which I would normally not pay for a nail varnish, but as this was in the offer, it only cost me a little bit..!

I find it works best if you use a base coat of a deep blue or maybe even a dark pink colour, as it really brings out the sparkle :) I will show you a nail tutorial for this if people would like to see it!

Let me know what you think of these products, have any of you tried these?
Thanks for reading, Jelaca <3

Something You - Winter Nails

Winter Nails

I thought I would do my first tutorial style blog post, as I had an idea for Winter inspired nails! I know it's not perfect, but try to look past the rough edges! Hope you like this...

Step One: Start off by painting your nails with one-two coats of white nail polish and wait until they have completely dried.

Step Two: It is important that they are completely dry, otherwise this next step will ruin them! Next you will need to use some nail tip guides and place them half way up your nail.

Step 3:  Paint over the nail with a baby blue nail polish. I used Maybelline's Super Stay Gel Nail Colour in Sea Sky. Again I would suggest using two coats.

Step 4: Once the polish is COMPLETELY dry(!) gently peel off the tip guide...

Step 5: Lastly you will need to go over the whole nail with a clear glitter coat. This is actually really good if your nail painting isn't so neat because the glitter can disguise imperfections sometimes!

So there you have it! Let me know if you like it :) Once again, sorry if the tutorial isn't perfect, I just hope it could give you an idea of how to create this look yourself x

Something You - What I love about Autumn/Winter!

What I love about Autumn/Winter!

Picture this... The rain pouring down outside with the frosty cold wind that accompanies the Winter season (I'm really selling it so far). However your are nice and warm with your pjs on and the softest blanket around you while you're sipping on a smooth cup of hot chocolate watching Disney movies. HOW GREAT DOES THAT SOUND!?

I think the beginning of Autumn is my favourite season! It is such a nice feeling when you realise that you can now finally wear your winter coat and clothes :)

I just feel like Summer is always disappointing, you may get a week of wonderful sunshine, but unless you go abroad then that is usually it! At least with the later part of the year you can be sure of the weather.

Not only this but I don't feel so guilty about staying in and doing cosy things such as watching the telly or writing blog posts (Very important things!).

So what do you like about Autumn/Winter the best? Hopefully it's not the end of it that you prefer! I'll tell you one other thing, the best thing about it... CHRISTMAS! Who's counting down?

Something Borrowed - Magazine Pick

Magazine Pick
(Borrowed from the Times Style mag!)

Just saw this feature in the Times Syle Magazine and it really stood out to me!

I had a little look at all the autumnal eyeshadow shades and was very impressed :) They are such easy and wearable colours and I'm sure you could get a good smokey eye out of them.

I was also happy at the range of prices used, as they are not all high end products and brands, there are a lot of affordable items there too! Yay!

Rundown...

So I took my favourite products from the list and thought I would give you my views about them and a link to buy them too!

This was the first one to stand out to me on the page! In the magazine, it has the lid open so you can't see the brand. I thought it was going to be an expensive one but was pleasantly surprised to see it is just at £4.50 per item. It is a really rich shade and would be great for a really deep and dark eyeshadow look if you applied it to the full lid. I'm sure it would make a nice smokey eye too applied to the crease!

I really like this pallete because it has really strong colours within the set. Often you can buy palletes that don't have dark enough browns for example, which is okay but means you can't do a really dramatic look. I love the tones they have included... It's so nice! But is quite a lot of money :( Priced at £46, it may have to be on your Christmas wish list!

I'm going to be honest, I didn't actually realise this was an eyeBROW product at first! That's okay though because it's still pretty cool. You can choose from a number of different shades to suit your colouring. As well as this, the fact it is a gel is great because it will be easier to apply and you can really build it up depending on how bold you want to go! This little pot is priced at £19.50.

Hope you liked my choices from this article, it really stood out to me on the whole and so thought I would share my favourites with you! Have a lovely day :) x

Something Borrowed - Paloma Faith Copy Cat

Paloma Faith Copy Cat

When I was about 16, I was so in love with Paloma Faith's style. I thought her hair and makeup was fantastic and so different, so I thought I'd make it my aim in life to look like her.

Yes, it's funny I know, but I'm sure we've all done it...! (Well maybe not with Paloma, but hey ho)

I went to the extremes of dying my hair ginger, analysing all of her makeup looks and even cutting a full fringe once in order to achieve her look.

When I look back on this it does make me laugh! Despite the fact I can safely say that I am out of this phase, I do still like trying out makeup looks and seeing how makeup can completely change your appearence. It's crazy really, but quite fun if you've got a bit of time on your hands and a creative mood!

So what I want to know is if any of you have had a stage in your life when you have tried so hard to look like someone. If so, who were they? It would be great to see pictures too if you have any!

Thanks for reading, catch you later x

Something Through - Max Factor Clump Defy

This mascara is nearly coming to an end! :(

I bought this after having tried other Max Factor mascaras before and I really like this!
Normally when I put mascara on I have to use eyelash curlers because otherwise the mascara goes clumpy. However this mascara I can apply with no prep and it goes on almost perfectly without clumps! (Hence the name...)

It has quite hard bristles which I used to avoid before, but have really come round since using this and some of Max Factor's other mascaras, I think that all helps with achieving no clumps.
Another thing I really like about this is that the wand is bowed and therefore enables a really easy application and makes your lashes look great!

It is currently sold at £10.99 in Boots stores and I definitely think it is worth it. It is as good as any of the higher priced mascaras I have tried and sometimes Boots even do a 3 for 2 deal which makes it even better (they are at the moment!), so in my opinion, it is very good value for money :)

Thank you for reading! x

Something You – Autumn 2015 Lip Shades

Seeing as it is now definitely Autumn (Although it is lovely and sunny today!) I thought I would do a seasonal blog post and post something for you. My favourite lip colours and shades for the Fall!

I have chosen my four favourites, I will run you through them below:

Bourjois (Rosewood Pearl) – I have had this lipstick for a little while and it is a really nice shade to wear. I feel like you don’t have to be too daring to wear this shade and it goes with a lot of makeup looks which is great! It is also more moisturising than some lipsticks which is important for when it starts to get colder :)

L’Oreal (Place Vendome) – I was given this lipstick for a present which was lovely! I think it is a beautiful colour :) Normally I don’t like red lipsticks because a lot are too bright or they just don’t suit me, but I feel like this is better because it has slightly darker tones and gives a beautiful colour when applied.

Rimmel (Amethyst Shimmer) – If you want to add a bit of colour to your look, this is a great lipstick to go for. It is fabulous for the transition between Summer and Winter because it’s not too bright (like something you might wear in the Summer) but still provides a lovely pop of colour for your lips with a really sophisticated tone :)

No7 (Under the Sun) – Finally I have chosen this lovely lipstick shade. It pretty much sums up Autumn to me. It has really rich, coppery, earthy tones and I think it is beautiful on. Again, as with all of the shades I have chosen, it is not too bright and will make your lips look absolutely gorgeous!

Let me know what you think, tell me if you have other favourites for Autumn, I would love to hear from you :)
All the best

Something New – H&M Nail Polish (Malin’s Mirage)

Yesterday I went shopping (Yay!) and found this beautiful nail varnish from H&M. I couldn’t resist the colour, I have been looking for a purple/pink sort of colour for a while so I am very pleased!

To make the whole thing better, it only cost me £1 because it was on sale :)

So as you can tell, I love the colour! The application was fairly easy as it has a rectangular brush rather than the regular kind of brush. I always prefer the rectangular kinds because they enable a much more smooth gliding action which is great.

I can’t comment on the durability, as I have only been wearing it since yesterday. However, I have had nail polishes in the past that have had chips in the next morning! :O At least this one is still all in tact after one night…

There we have it. The first post in the Something New category. You can probably see that I love this nail polish so far, so if you can get your hands on one before they are all gone then great for you!

Thank you for reading, have a lovely day

New Blog!

I have started so many blogs over the years! I think I get too excited at the beginning and then get stuck for post ideas…

I’m not going to do that this time though and if anyone reading wants to help me keep going, then you would be most welcome! So what I’m really asking, is for any ideas, suggestions or requests for posts.
Until then I will just be posting reviews of my favourite products, maybe some tutorials and posts like that :)
